About Us

About Miou
Miou is proud to offer fashionable, high-quality garments while contributing to ethical production that supports fair-trade labour, conscientiously chosen material, and lasting products. Our garments are handmade by exceptionally skilled artisans in Peru using 100% GOTS organic cotton or baby alpaca wool. Many of our garments are coloured with plant-dyes, a method based on Indigenous Peruvian tradition.

Unlike many other fashion brands, Miou does not continually changes lines every season. Instead, we focus on creating ethical knitwear of quality that does not go out of style. We believe in slow fashion that benefits our earth, our children, and our knitters. Our garments offer gorgeous outfits that are still comfortable and durable enough for play.

Miou’s line of fashionable, eco-friendly clothing for children is designed by Christine Dubin. Originally from France, Christine now lives in a charming oceanfront town on the West Coast of Canada.

Fair Trade, Gentle to the Planet

Miou’s vision is to have a positive impact on the world and the people whose lives we touch. All our designer knitwear for children is handmade by artisans in rural Peru, where knitting is a centuries-old tradition handed down from one generation to the next. Their ancestral knowledge is demonstrated in the amazing quality of their work. Working for Miou empowers the knitters by enabling them to provide food, housing, health care, and education to their families while doing something they love. They are grateful for the fair wages they receive and for the opportunity to work from home while caring for their children, especially as some of them are single mothers. We are also committed to caring for the environment. We use baby alpaca wool, which is considered “green” because of the alpacas’ low-impact grazing habits. We also use organic cotton, which is free from harmful pesticides and chemicals. Our dyes are certified eco-friendly, and we aim to use recycled materials for our business needs.

Caring for Alpaca Clothing

Alpaca wool was called “the fibre of the gods” by the ancient Incas, who were well aware of its exceptional qualities. It is as soft and luxurious as cashmere, stronger than mohair, and warmer and softer than sheep wool. Alpaca wool is an excellent insulator and is extremely durable. Its fibres are elastic and will stretch to fit your children as they grow. Because it doesn’t contain lanolin, alpaca wool is considered hypoallergenic and doesn’t irritate the skin. It naturally repels water and has antibacterial properties, so your knitwear will stay clean longer. To care for your designer alpaca kids’ clothes, wash by hand in cold water with a mild detergent and lay flat to dry.

Caring for Organic Cotton Clothing

It’s important to us to use organic cotton for our hand-crocheted baby and children’s clothes, because traditional cotton is grown using extremely toxic pesticides that are harmful to the earth and our bodies. To clean your cotton clothing, you can either hand wash in cold water with mild detergent and lay flat to dry, or you can machine wash on the “delicate” cycle and put it in the dryer on the lowest setting.
