Miou’s Organic Cotton Knitwear: Better for the planet and your child

Organic cotton blankets from Miou

More and more people are seeking out organic cotton for their baby’s sweaters, dresses, booties and blankets. And here at Miou, we couldn’t be happier about that! All of our products are created with the desire to have the very best for our children, our knitters and the environment.

That’s why organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes are so important to us. Cotton is one of the most commonly used fabrics in the world. Just look through your closet and you’ll find lots of cotton-based clothing.

But did you know that non-organic cotton is actually considered one of the most toxic crops in the world?

Cotton farmers use insecticides such as aldicarb, parathion, and methamidopho, three of the most hazardous insecticides to human health as determined by the World Health Organization. They also use synthetic fertilizers that are bad for the environment and leach into our water, causing harm to humans and aquatic animals. In contrast, organic farmers use natural fertilizers like compost and manure, and don’t use dangerous insecticides.

At Miou, our cotton is certified by the the Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres. You can read more about it here.

We believe children should wear clothing that is good for their bodies, minds and souls. Using organic cotton helps us feel at ease knowing we are supporting farmers who work hard every day to grow crops they know will not cause harm to consumers or to the environment.
