Caring for Alpaca Hats

Alpaca is a sustainable, eco-friendly wool that feels smooth and soft against the skin. That’s why it’s the perfect wool for young children, who can be sensitive to some fabrics.

To wash your hat, start by soaking in cool water with a mild detergent. Do not use hot water, which can turn alpaca wool to felt as the heat bands the fibres together. Squeeze the hat gently to wash, being careful not to twist or wring. Press out the excess water and lay flat on a clean towel to dry.

What’s Important to Us

Miou was founded on the belief that it is possible to produce beautiful, stylish clothing for children while still staying true to our goals of being eco-friendly and socially responsible. As a children’s clothing company, we believe it’s vital for us to set a positive example for the next generation. Our clothing is all hand-knitted by a team of exceptional women in Peru, who are paid a far wage for their work. This allows them to support their own children and provide them with food, clothing and an education.

We also use earth-friendly wools and fabrics such as 100% baby alpaca and organic cotton so that we aren’t casing harm to the environment or exposing the children who wear our clothes to toxic pesticides and dyes.
