Washing Your Alpaca Bonnets

Alpaca is an incredible wool: it doesn’t scratch or itch the skin, it’s velvety soft and, remarkably, it has some stain-resistant properties. What could be more perfect for young children?

To wash your bonnet, you just need to follow a few steps. Start by soaking in cool water with a mild detergent. Hot water can ruin alpaca garments, as the heat will cause the fibres to band together and turn to felt. Squeeze the garment gently without wringing or twisting. Rinse in cold water and gently press out the extra water. Lay flat between two towels and roll up the towels to soak up the water. You can lay the item flat on a fresh towel or dry on a sweater rack. Voila! You’re all done.

Voila! You’re all done.

How We Want to Make a Difference

More and more consumers are turning to products that are earth-friendly, non-toxic and socially responsible. Miou strives to fulfill all these criteria, because being an ethical company that causes no harm to our workers or the children who wear our products is our number-one concern.

We use only eco-friendly wools and dyes, and we pay our team of wonderful, talented knitters in Peru a fair wage so they can afford to support their own families. Our knitters follow a tradition of passing down their knowledge from mother to daughter, which is helping teach the next generation of women a skill that can give them a chance to succeed and break away from the crippling poverty that so many experience. We are grateful to have the opportunity to do our part.
