To Miou, fair trade means so much more than just being “fair.” Or course it’s important for companies to not cheat their employees out of money they deserve, but fair trade also means you are giving your employees a decent wage that makes it possible for them to support their family. It means that you are choosing to acknowledge that their work matters and is worthy of fair pay. Sadly, this is not the case in many parts of the world, where workers are given terrible working conditions, long hours and barely enough money to survive.
Our knitters in Peru are all paid a fair wage, and they can work from home where they can care for their families. Their wages allow them to feed, clothe and educate their children. We are grateful for their hard work and their exquisite craftsmanship and are thrilled to be in this partnership with them.
